Proposals and Program

We plan to start Thursday, October 11 at 10:30am with a pre-conference. The main conference starts on Friday, October 12 at 9:00am and will go on until Sunday, October 14 at 12:00pm. We are working on the program and more information will follow soon. We plan to have a grand dinner on Saturday night and there will be opportunities to take a break from the conference to experience the wonders of Hveragerði and surroundings.

Call for Papers

Iceland is hosting the 20th Nordic Art Therapies Conference in Hveragerði, a beautiful village surrounded by geothermally active area, 35 km outside of Reykjavik.

We are now sending out a call for papers and workshops. Our call is open to all creative arts therapies: art therapy, music therapy, drama therapy, dance/movement therapy, poetry/bibliotherapy, and psychodrama.

Deadline for all proposals submission – February 24, 2018

The theme of the conference is “Diversity within the Creative Arts Therapies.” We aim to explore the diversity of theories in practice, population, research and studies in all the creative arts therapies. We are excited to hear and experience what each of you have to offer and to learn from each other.

During the conference, we will hear paper presentations and participate in workshops. We especially encourage you to share your ideas through a workshop, as learning by doing is very powerful.

We invite you to send abstracts that somehow correspond with the theme described but keep in mind that diversity comes in many forms and colors.

Abstracts should not be longer than 200 words, only abstracts submitted in English will be considered. Please write your abstract in clear and precise language.

Presentation guidelines:

  • Paper presentation: 35 min followed by 10 min questions and answer period.

  • Workshops: 90 min or 2 hours.

    • A workshop session should be experiential and should not include lengthy spoken introductions and commentaries.

Poster presentation session:

Abstract for posters are welcome. Presenters will be required to bring with them posters and/or whatever else they need ready for display. A session will be built into the program, when poster presenters will be available to answer questions and discuss their ideas.

The poster format is a good way to:

  • Share findings of research

  • Illustrate your practical work, interesting projects, cases, challenges etc.

  • discuss (new) theoretical concepts

  • present your bachelor or master thesis in a short and concise form.

The conference organizers reserve the right to adjust the length of presentations if it is felt to be to the benefit of the program.

If you are having difficulties submitting proposal please send an e-mail to
